How to use the OPNBar - instructions

Shipping container doors that won't budge? The OPNBar Door Lever Handle slides over the container's door latch handle and multiplies your leverage, so you can free rusted, iced-over or jammed lockrods without a crowbar, a forklift or a trip to the chiropractor. It's made in the USA from steel and weighs just 3 lb.

Why Container Doors Get Stuck

Rust on the locking bars, dried-out cams, ice, and containers sitting out of level all make door handles hard to turn. When technique doesn't work, people reach for whatever is nearby, and that's when injuries happen. A purpose-built door handle extension gives you controlled leverage so you can open the door with less strain.

Ergonomic Design

Joint-friendly container access: the OPNBar's angle and handle are designed to keep your wrists in a more natural position and let your larger muscle groups do the work, to help reduce the load on your joints when you open and close container doors.

The OPNBar is designed around the way your body moves when you open a stiff container door. It extends the door latch handle, so you can use a steady pull from your legs and body weight instead of jerking the handle with your wrists and back. Watch the OPNBar ergonomic trucker tool in use:

How to Open a Stuck Shipping Container Door

  1. Start with the right-hand door. On most containers it overlaps the left one.
  2. Slide the OPNBar over the door latch handle and lift the handle out of its keeper.
  3. Rotate the handle to turn the lockrods and free the cams from their keepers. The extra length of the bar does the work.
  4. Pull the door open with your legs, not your back, and watch for cargo that may have shifted in transit.
  5. To close, reverse the steps and use the bar to seat the handle back in its keeper.

Why OPNBar

  • Door latch handle extender made for opening and closing shipping containers and truck trailers
  • Works on rusted or iced-over doors where bare hands can't get enough leverage
  • More than a door opener: it also has a 5th wheel release hook and works as a tire thumper
  • Made in the USA by SCS International since 2005, in steel with an anti-corrosive finish
  • For yards, ports, warehouses and self-storage: wholesale pricing available, and available through GSA contract 47QSEA23D004N

Tire check by sound: a properly inflated tire makes a loud, sharp thud; a poorly inflated tire makes a dull thud.

FAQ

Will this fit my container's door handles?
It fits standard shipping container door latch handles. For handles with rubber sleeves, triangular handles or tightly spaced lockrods, see our Version 3, 4 and 5 leverage bars, each built for a specific handle style.

Can I use it on a storage container or conex box I own?
Yes. It works on standard ISO shipping containers, including conex boxes used for storage.

How is it different from using a pipe or crowbar?
It is designed to fit the handle and give controlled leverage, unlike improvised tools that can slip.

Do you offer bulk pricing?
Yes. For wholesale orders, contact us or visit opnbar.com.
